Under what circumstances may you cross a junction during a red light?

In Germany, you are generally required to stop at a red light and not enter the intersection. However, there are exceptions to this rule:

1. If an emergency vehicle with a blue flashing light and siren is approaching, you may carefully enter the junction to clear the way and give the vehicle priority. This ensures emergency responders can pass quickly and safely.

2. If a police officer is physically directing traffic at the junction, their instructions override the traffic lights. You must follow their signals, which may mean crossing a red light if directed to do so.

These exceptions help maintain safety and order in special situations. Outside of these cases, crossing on a red light is prohibited and can result in fines and penalties.
